It is very exciting for me to be here again. The oppertunity to mix within the arts community and as always good to meet with previous and new collectors. It's been a long time since we had this show. Lots of new work and ideas have been explored to make this new body of paintings. HEAR ME SERIES

This series came about when I was considering my legacy and who is witness to my presence, my life, who will hear me. Using my own photography I generated a series of silk screens on separate original abstract painted canvases. I then stretched these canvases on frames that I made. Surrounding each original painting I laser cut the questions out of the frame in order to create the narrative around the topic.

CAMO MAN SERIES

This series came about when I was considering my identity. on how I fit into society, into a new city or even into my family. What kind of camouflage did I or do I employ, emotional, spiritual or cultural etc? So many questions around this topic. So I took corrugated board which is considered strong and what we use normally to surround something we want to protect, yet its so fragile at the same time to laser cut these thoughts into a corrugated frame.

THE BRIDE SERIES

This image comes from my successful photographic AFRICAN SOUL SERIES. The Bride was always the most sought after and talked about image, so it was an obvious choice for me to expand it into this new conversation about how we see and most of all develop and improve ourselves. I created this series with the idea that we can be many different colors and variations of ourselves. Surrounding these original silkscreens, I have made frames coated in Shwe-Shwe fabric as a homage to my country.

AFRICAN DREAM SERIES

This series came about when I was considering the textures of the memories of growing up in Africa. So much of my hopeful nature is to want to grasp onto an ideal side of my memories, where we are positively surrounded by color, texture and design.

DONT FADE SERIES

As I evolve as an artist, I explore more and more techniques. What I have found is that my photography was and has been the corner stone of my art process. In exploring the way forward I find that I don't lose sight of my foundation in how the process started. In this series I felt I wanted to explore the thoughts of fading, lost memories and possible traditions that might be our foundation to who we are becoming. So, I covered my frames with traditional South African designed fabric as a nod to my foundation.

PORTRAITS

Similar to my photographic practice, I love coming up close with the lens to see the person, to look into their eyes and to connect. The exhilaration of painting my first portrait still stays with me in all my subsequent portraits. Once again I use my own photography as my source material thus know the different characters of the person and use that as my inspiration to convey different textures and emotion in each portrait painting.
